Hypertension affects millions of people and is one of the most significant predictors of cardiovascular disease leading to death. Management of hypertension occurs through weight loss, increased exercise, quitting smoking, and medication use. Another management is the intake of selected bioactives composed of anthocyanins that are found in blueberries, they are beneficial in mediating improvements in vascular function, promoting cardiovascular health and reducing hypertension by improving endothelial function.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o\"><span lang=\"en\">The study included 22 sedentary subjects, men and women between 40 and 70 years old. Participants were divided into Blueberry group (BB n = 10) and Placebo group (PL n = 12), they ate 38g \/ day of BB or PB powder with dinner for 3 weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o\"><span lang=\"en\">Blood pressure was measured, arterial distensibility was also measured to obtain arterial stiffness indices. When they returned to the laboratory, blood pressure was measured 1 and 2 hours after ingestion to assess acute effects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o\"><span lang=\"en\">Systolic blood pressure decreased for the BB group 1 and 2 hours after ingestion, with no difference in diastolic blood pressure for both groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o\"><span lang=\"en\">Blueberries have cardioprotective substances with antioxidant properties that can result in decreased arterial stiffness, these fruits also contain bioactive components such as anthocyanins and flavonols that promote improved blood pressure and vascular performance, as well as increase endothelial regulation of the nitric oxide synthase enzyme, reducing oxidative stress and inhibition of inflammatory pathways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>REFERENCES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>L.S.
